Tricolour Irish Flag free C2C crochet pattern

Picture of the Irish Flag C2C crochet pattern

Irish Flag Cushion Cover back panel

Create an Irish flag C2C crochet pattern, and make this bright cushion cover for St Patricks Day.
This tricolour panel is designed to be the back panel of the Irish Harp cushion cover front panel. It could also be used by itself, and can be easily adapted to any other 3 colour flag by changing the colours from green white and orange, to colours of your choice. Try adapting the colours used for a flag from France, Belgium, Guinea, Italy, Ivory Coast (or use this pattern upside down) Mali, or Romania.

Information on how to work a corner to corner stitch and read a corner to corner pattern are available in this tutorial.

Materials Needed:

Rico Creative Cotton Aran (100% cotton) Size 4 Aran weight, 85m/93yds per 50g/1.75oz ball

Green (colour 49): 2 balls – (80g, 140m used)
White (colour 80): 2 balls – (80g, 140m used)
Orange (colour 74): 2 balls – (80g, 140m used)

Yarn substitutions suggestions:
Drops Paris
Rainbow Hobbii
Scheepjes Cahlista
Cascade Yarns Nifty Cotton

4.5mm (US size 7) crochet hook, or size needed to match tension/gauge

Darning needle for weaving in ends

43x43cm or 16”x16” cushion pad. A cushion that is a tiny bit larger than the cover is best, to give the filled cushion some plumpness.
Metric cushion pads come in very slightly different sizes, the 43cm option recommended is just a touch bigger than the 16” option, but they should both work well.

Tension/Gauge:

8 tiles = 10cm/4” before first wash
9 tiles = 10cm/4” after washing
(The tendency to shrink slightly on a first wash has as much to do with the crochet stitch used as the type of yarn, and if possible, it is best to create an 8 x 8 tile swatch and wash it as you would the finished item. You can create any of the matching coasters from the tutorial as a swatch, if desired. The gaps between the stitches in a C2C pattern will tend to contract the first time it is washed.)

Measurements for Irish flag C2C crochet pattern:

41cm/16in²

Accessibility, abbreviations and terminology:

This pattern is laid out to be dyslexia friendly, avoiding unnecessary abbreviations and accessible to screen-readers, in large sized font.

The pattern is given in both chart format, and written out line by line. All information in the chart is repeated in the line by line instructions.

It has been written for both US and UK terminology. Because it is a C2C pattern, the specific terms that are different between UK and US terms only occur in one paragraph, which is repeated so you can read the one that works best for you.
