Free Spooky Crochet Spiderweb Decorations

Spread the love

Are you looking for a free crochet pattern for Hallowe’en decorations? Do you love spiders? (I do!) Then this free spooky crochet spiderweb decoration might be just the thing.

Crochet spiderweb decorations

What’s great about crochet decorations?

Crochet a spiderweb bunting to bring some hallowe’en fun to your home, garden, or even decorate your local post box. A hand made crochet decoration can be reused year after year. This saves money in the long run, and helps save the planet from excess plastic rubbish bought to celebrate the season and then thrown out. If you use a natural yarn, even better.

Materials needed for Free Spooky Crochet Spiderweb Decoration

You can use any yarn to create this decoration. You may find your decoration comes out a very different size, or that the quantities of yarn you need won’t match what I have listed below if using a very different yarn weight.

Materials needed
Materials needed for crochet spiderweb decorations. Worsted weight cotton yarn (colours shown are black, purple and orange), crochet hook, stitch markers, darning needle and yarn snips

Yarn used:

Worsted weight cotton such as Drops Paris or Hobbii Rainbow. (100% cotton, 50g 75m/82y per ball)

Black or colour for spiders: 20g/30m per spider. Two full balls needed to make bunting with 5 spiders as shown

Spiderwebs in colour of choice: 15g/25m per spiderweb. One ball each in 2 or more colours to make bunting as shown.

4.5mm crochet hook (or size required for your yarn and preferred tension).

9 stitch markers including one in a distinctive colour or shape for end of round.

Darning needle for weaving in ends.

Scissors or yarn snips

Tension (gauge)

Tension is not critical for this project. Different yarn or hook will create different size decorations. It is always wise to check your stitches before starting the project, and experiment with different hook sizes for your yarn to select the one you are happiest with.

The decoration as shown is based on 14 chain stitches over 10 cm, or 4 inches.

Measurements

Bunting measures approx 175cm (69in) long when made to the tension stated above.

Accessibility, abbreviations and terminology

This pattern is presented with accessibility in mind. It uses both UK and US crochet terms. Where there is a difference, the instruction is given with the UK term first, and the instruction is repeated with the US term underneath.

Standard crochet abbreviations are not used, each standard crochet term is written out in full each time. This is to aid screen reader accessibility, and to create a more reader-friendly experience for some neurodiverse people who struggle with abbreviations.

Images are used throughout, all information in the images is repeated in the text.

Crochet Stitches used (UK terms):

Chain Stitch
Double Crochet
Treble Crochet
Slip Stitch
v-stitch: Treble crochet, chain 1, treble crochet in stitch indicated

Crochet Stitches used (US terms):
Chain Stitch
Single Crochet
Double Crochet
Slip Stitch
v-stitch: Treble crochet, chain 1, treble crochet in stitch indicated

Notes
The Crochet Spiderweb decoration as shown is made up of 5 Webs and 5 Spiders. You can also make individual webs and spiders. Spiders are worked in a continuous spiral without closing off each round with a slip stitch. You may find it helpful to mark the first stitch of the round, moving it up as you go, with a distinctive marker. You may also find it helpful to mark the other 8 increase points.
